10 Steps to True Health - You may be focusing on the wrong thing


Most people think of good health as their physical state. They are physically fit, they are free of pain, they are in good body weight, they are physically strong.


But, as a holistically trained wellness and transformational life coach and a registered nurse - my experience has shown that good health encompasses way more than the physical state. Actually in order to obtain a healthy physical body- the housing unit- the part we all need to survive, you must first start with your inner body and state. This is the foundation.


So, what exactly is your inner state? The inner state is non-material - it is a thought, an energy source, but it has everything to do with your ability to create and maintain a healthy physical state. If your inner state is not healthy - your outer physical state will not be healthy. You must build a strong inner foundation to create a strong healthy outer home.


Here is a list of inner attributes that need to be developed, balanced, and nourished.


  • It is your Emotional health and it’s flexibility

  • It is your Mental talk

  • It is your Peace in your soul

  • It is your Connection with others

  • It is your Love in your heart

  • It is your ability to Honor yourself

  • It is your level of Gratitude for your body and gifts.

  • It is your Belief and faith in your own internal strength


These are all internal energy sources that cannot be neglected. We must nurture these areas to be as healthy, balanced, and strong as possible in order to have a strong foundation to achieve optimal health.


Without these fundamental inner pieces being healthy - it is impossible to create a healthy physical state. This is where the work is! And I promise you, if you tend to these areas- you will create a healthy body and home.


So, how do you start ??


1. You have to UNDERSTAND that good health starts here with your inner work. How many of you are emotional eaters? How many times have you noticed your pain reduced when you enjoyed moments of laughter, love, joy, connection in your life? How often have you been unmotivated or quit an exercise program because you were emotionally drained or too depressed and have no energy? You don’t love yourself, so you feel unworthy and don’t honor your body in nutritious ways. These areas need to be cared for before, you can make sustainable changes in your physical health. You need to understand and believe that this inner work is what will create a truly healthy outer body. The body has the ability to heal itself, but it needs the right energy and fuel to do it.


2. Be AWARE/OBSERVE. Identify which of these inner attributes are lacking in your life. Which one of these attributes need attention? This is hard inner work and takes honest awareness. Coaching is so valuable here to help you to identify areas that are keeping you from being your healthiest self, and support you to create new ways to make them healthy.


3. The power of TRUSTING and LETTING GO - To not bring on unnecessary stress into your life. Life is challenging enough to navigate without you adding on more! To learn to trust that there is a perfectly created pattern and timing to life. Mother Nature is the perfect example. To develop patience and know the right thing will happen at the right moment. To learn to Let go. It just may not be time yet. To let go of things that are out of your control. To not hold on to stress of the past. You can not change what has happened- you only have control of creating the next step. Holding onto stress - raises your cortisol - which causes inflammation - which is the root cause of all disease.

4. Create moments of PEACE / Create QUIET. Start with finding or creating places of external peace. Then bring that to your Internal peace. The body and mind need to rest, find calm, live in peace and not live in chaos to heal. Create that peace in your soul. Seek it out daily. Allow rest and recovery and then healing will occur.


5. CONNECTION is Key - We were not meant to go at this alone. We are social beings. We need love, joy, laughter, companionship. All high vibrational healing energies. Connect with others who support these values and support you. Everything in nature relies on something else to survive and thrive. It is the law of nature.


6. LOVE unconditionally (not needing anything in return) - love for the sake- that you want to share your love. That you don’t expect anything in return. Love has the highest vibrational energy of all. It is essential to good health.


7. HONOR yourself . What do you feed your cells? Are you honoring and nourishing your body with healthy food? What do you feed your mind? Become aware of your thoughts - your mental space. What do you say to yourself - would you say that to someone you love??? “You are so stupid, you are ugly, you are not worthy, you are not good enough” etc.. How often do you say these things to yourself? You are not Honoring yourself! Many of these false beliefs were generated by your 3-7 yr old child’s mind. You formed these beliefs from your perceived reality of your environment as a helpless child, unable to defend yourself. You wouldn’t let a 3 yr old drive your car- so why let them drive your life. Coaching is so helpful in getting that 3 yr old out of the driver’s seat.


8. Have an ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE . Thank your body for doing all it has done to protect and preserve you. The body is always seeking homeostasis and striving to heal itself. It is a miraculous cellular structure that needs honoring, gratitude and love. What you focus on expands. Identify things you are grateful for - and they will flourish.


9. BELIEF in YOURSELF - in your true power. Your true strength, greatness, and abilities are limitless. Be empowered to know you can change and create the healthy life you deserve. If you don’t have the belief in yourself- then borrow that belief from a coach or someone who can support you, till you can believe it yourself.


10. Take ACTION. It takes more than just thinking. Start with taking one small step at a time to care for your inner attributes and create your healthiest version of yourself inside and out.
